Islamabad, Aug 13, 2025: The Ministry of Housing has unveiled shocking statistics in the National Assembly, showing that 3,500 government houses in Karachi remain under illegal occupation. Since 2019, authorities have managed to reclaim just 700 of these properties, while the majority are still unlawfully held.
In comparison, both Islamabad and Lahore currently have zero cases of illegal possession. However, the ministry disclosed that in the past, 742 houses across the two cities were recovered from encroachers. So far, Rs40 million has been retrieved from unauthorized occupants, with legal actions initiated against those resisting eviction.
An official breakdown of government housing stock shows 17,492 houses in Islamabad, 1,943 in Lahore, and 7,882 in Karachi. Housing Minister Riaz Pirzada also revealed that in Karachi alone, 2,200 houses were wrongfully allotted, with many original property files now missing.
