ISLAMABAD — Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has pledged full support of the Pakistan Army to support the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts for victims of the devastating floods across northern Pakistan.

According to security sources, the Army has deployed additional troops to reinforce rescue and relief operations in affected areas, where flash floods and landslides have claimed more than 229 lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) alone, as reported by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

In a significant gesture, the Army has allocated one day’s worth of rations—amounting to over 600 tons—for distribution among flood-stricken families alongside soldiers’ regular salaries. The move aims to address urgent food shortages faced by displaced communities.

Field Marshal Asim Munir has directed the Corps of Engineers to accelerate the repair of damaged bridges and to build temporary crossings to restore connectivity to cut-off areas. Specialized units have also been mobilised, including the Army’s K-9 search dogs and a dedicated Urban Search and Rescue team, to aid in locating missing persons trapped under debris or swept away by flash floods.

Army aviation assets, including helicopters, are conducting aerial surveillance and relief drops to deliver food, medicine, and essential supplies to remote and inaccessible valleys.

Military officials stressed that the Army’s involvement will continue “until every family in need has been assisted,” underscoring the scale of the disaster and the government’s reliance on joint civil-military efforts to stabilise the situation.
