The England and Wales Cricket Board set to appoint a 21-year-old all-rounder Jacob Bethell the youngest cricketer to captain the England national team in international cricket this September when the young lad captains a second-string England T20 outfit on the Ireland tour. Harry Brook is sitting out along with other senior stars and in such state, the selectors placed Bethell, who has received little game time this summer in charge.
The previous record was by Monty Bowden who was 23 years and 144 days when he became a Test captain of England against South Africa in 1889. Talking of the honour, Bethell said that he was proud and would enjoy conducting the side in Dublin.
Prior to the Ireland series, England team (without major omissions) will take on South Africa in three ODIs and three T20s. Hampshire quick Sonny Baker has got his first call-up after encouraging showings in the Hundred and Mark Wood is still recovering after knee surgery. England management indicate that his fitness in the Ashes in the long term period is their concern.

Brydon Carse comes back having missed The Hundred, Jofra Archer, Jamie Overton and Saqib Mahmood boost the ODI attack. There are also recalls with Rehan Ahmed and Phil Salt returning to T20 in the wake of paternity leave. Once again, Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone are deprived as both have been awarded central contracts. It is a historic moment because the series with Ireland sees the England cricket team being skippered by Bethell, the youngest captain in history of the world cricket team England.
