The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) carried out an operation on Friday, sealing seven illegal constructions on Girja Road for ignoring dengue prevention guidelines.

Officials said five completed buildings were shut down after being found in violation of dengue SOPs, posing risks of mosquito breeding. Two under-construction sites were also sealed due to poor safety measures and missing No Objection Certificates (NOCs).

The operation was conducted under the Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and the RDA Building and Zoning Regulations 2021, which ban construction without proper approvals.

According to the RDA, the move followed directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who has ordered strict action against illegal construction and encroachments. The authority stressed that public safety and protection from diseases like dengue remain its top priority.

RDA further appealed to developers and property owners to follow dengue SOPs and cooperate with officials to ensure safe and well-regulated neighborhoods in Rawalpindi.
