The Met Office heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Kashmir as monsoon activity intensifies, warning of cloudbursts, river flooding, and severe downpours in multiple regions.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the active monsoon system is likely to hit upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Mardan, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Peshawar, and adjoining areas with heavy rain and thunderstorms. Similarly, Abbottabad, Battagram, Kohistan, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, and Kashmir’s Neelum Valley are also at risk of torrential rainfall.

The PDMA Punjab has cautioned that from August 17 to 23, the province may experience widespread rainfall with possible cloudbursts in northern Punjab, increasing the threat of river flooding. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also predicted heavy showers for Sindh and Balochistan, with risks of urban flooding and landslides in vulnerable districts.

Authorities have urged travelers to postpone trips to hilly and tourist areas, while district administrations have been directed to remain on high alert. In the federal capital, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, a rain emergency has already been declared following intense downpours.
