After an exciting preliminary card highlighted by a second-round finish from Dana White’s Contender Series alum Baisangur Susurkaev, the UFC fight Khamzat Chimaev stole the spotlight on the main card. The evening started with Tim Elliott submitting Kai Asakura, and Michael Venom Page knocking out Jared Cannonier who is ranked in the Top 10. This would roll on with Carlos Prates and Lerone Murphy getting first-round KOs.
Under the headliner, Chimaev defeated Dricus Du Plessis in an overpowering five round affair to win the middleweight title unanimously on the scorecards. After less than 10 seconds, the unbeaten contender dropped Du Plessis and rendered him a mounted crucifix which he effectively held until the end of the round. The same domination continued toward rounds two and three where Chimaev repeatedly smashed any offense.
The fight reached championship rounds with the precision of wrestling that Chimaev used to put Du Plessis to the back foot. Every move of the former champ to attack was blocked and it was Chimaev controlling the pace and space within the Octagon. Du Plessis made a weak offensive thrust which was not enough to change fortunes.
