The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has urged citizens to adopt stronger password practices as part of its new cyber awareness campaign.

The regulator reminded the public that a secure password is the first line of defense in the digital world, protecting both personal data and online accounts from rising cyber threats.

In its advisory, PTA recommended the following steps for safe digital practices:

  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all major accounts for added security.
  • Create strong and unique passwords using a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Avoid reusing the same password across multiple accounts.
  • Do not share your password with anyone under any circumstances.
  • Update passwords regularly to reduce the risk of breaches.
  • Refrain from using personal details such as names, birthdays, or easy combinations like “1234.”
  • Use biometric authentication (fingerprint or face ID) where available for additional protection.

Officials highlighted that weak passwords remain one of the easiest entry points for hackers. Citizens were urged to take responsibility for their digital safety by following these best practices.

“Your password is your shield. Keep it strong to stay secure and protected,” PTA said in its message.
