Residents of Karachi enjoyed a refreshing change on Tuesday as Karachi rain, ranging from light drizzle to heavy showers, swept across the city following several days of intense heat and sticky humidity.

Areas including Sharea Faisal, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir Model Colony, Malir Halt, Rafah-e-Aam, Surjani Town, Korangi, and the airport surroundings reported consistent rainfall. The morning began with mild drizzle that later turned into heavier showers in some parts, giving citizens a much-needed break from the sweltering weather.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), isolated showers are likely to continue in Karachi over the next few days, with a fresh rain-bearing system expected to influence the city between August 22 and 23.

High humidity despite showers

Although Karachi rain has cooled the atmosphere, sea breezes have temporarily stopped, leaving humidity at around 75 percent. While people welcomed the pleasant shift in weather, concerns about waterlogging and drainage in low-lying neighborhoods still remain.

Sindh govt steps up preparations

To deal with possible heavy downpours, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired an urgent meeting to review the city’s readiness. He instructed local bodies, administration, and traffic police to stay on high alert and coordinate closely to reduce disruption.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab informed the CM that de-silting and cleaning work was ongoing at more than 150 small drains and 44 critical choke points to ensure smooth flow of rainwater. Authorities are hopeful these measures will help reduce urban flooding if rainfall intensifies.

For now, the Karachi rain has brought a sigh of relief for citizens, even as they remain watchful for the challenges that often follow downpours in the city.
