Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered an immediate reduction in Punjab transport fares after the federal government announced a major cut in diesel prices. She stressed that lowering fares is the “basic right” of the public and directed authorities to ensure full implementation without delay.

Just two days earlier, the federal government slashed the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 12.84 per litre, bringing it down to Rs 272.99. The move is expected to provide relief across the transport sector, including buses, trucks, trains, and even agricultural machinery that rely heavily on HSD.

Maryam Nawaz warned transporters that any delay in adjusting Punjab transport fares would not be accepted. She instructed district administrations and the provincial transport department to enforce the revised rates strictly. All bus stands and terminals have been ordered to display updated fare lists to ensure transparency for passengers.

The chief minister also made it clear that action will be taken against transporters who fail to pass on the benefit of reduced fuel prices to the people. Alongside diesel, the federal government also lowered kerosene oil prices by Rs 7.19 to Rs 178.27 per litre and light diesel oil by Rs 8.20 to Rs 162.37 per litre. However, petrol prices remain unchanged at Rs 264.61 per litre.
