Pakistan Railways is considering suspending two of its passenger trains due to a serious shortage of coaches. Officials confirmed that the Shah Hussain Express, which operates with 34 coaches on the Karachi route, and the Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, which usually runs with nearly 50 coaches, may be stopped.

According to sources, the shortage of coaches along with low passenger turnout has led to this proposal. At present, Pakistan Railways is facing a deficit of almost 100 coaches, which is affecting services across the network.

Meetings are currently being held at the railway headquarters, but no final decision has been reached. If both trains are discontinued, passengers could face fewer travel options and greater disruption in railway operations.

In a separate move, Pakistan Railways has directed all passenger and freight trains to strictly follow updated safety rules after a series of recent accidents. A new circular requires that no train should depart unless its brake system is fully checked and cleared by technical staff. Any faulty engine or coach will be immediately removed from service.

Officials say these steps aim to improve safety, prevent delays, and restore public confidence in the rail network.
