Marius Borg Hoiby, the eldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, has been formally charged with multiple serious offences, including rape and domestic violence. Oslo prosecutors confirmed that the 28 year old will stand trial after months of investigation into allegations that have drawn global attention due to his royal ties.

Authorities allege Hoiby is facing over 30 charges, including several counts of rape, sexual assault and bodily harm. Despite the unfolding trial, Crown Prince Haakon has stated that the royal family will continue its official duties. The case has sparked a wider debate in Norway over accountability, privilege and the pressures on public institutions when individuals linked to the monarchy face serious allegations.
