It has been almost twenty years that Pakistan and India have been participating in thrilling cricket contests in limited-overs cricket, the one form of cricket that has yet to occur has been in test cricket. Legendary pacer Waseem Akram also expressed optimism of the two nations playing the 5-day format again, saying it has always been his dream in life to see the two countries playing in the 5-day format.

The sides last featured in a Test series in 2007, before political unrest suspended bilateral cricket. Since that time, their meetings have been restricted to ICC tournaments and to continental matches and these have resulted in intense matches, although always without the conventional format that Akram feels is still important to the game.

I would like to see India playing Test against Pakistan at least once during my lifetime, Akram said on an appearance on a podcast on YouTube Stick To Cricket. His words appeal to the followers who are waiting to see classic Indo Pak cricket, which used to attract large crowds and world reflection in the past.

Waseem Akram, though appreciating political challenges, was confident that cricket can be an instrument of unification and not an objection of political games. He urged both sides of the fans to cheer their teams and do so with dignity, without personal attacks.

This debate emerges weeks before the Asia Cup 2025 where Pakistan and India will face off in the group stage on September 14 in the UAE. Notwithstanding the politics, Akram claims that “the game has to continue.” Fans all over the hope one day that this wish by Waseem Akram to have another revived Test series to happen.
