The federal government has approved the launch of two major Islamabad road projects starting next month. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters.
According to CDA officials, the groundbreaking ceremonies for the T Chowk Flyover and Shaheen Chowk Underpass will be held in the first week of September.
The CDA has already invited bids for the Rs 1.4 billion T Chowk project, planned at the busy junction of GT Road and Islamabad Expressway. The flyover is designed to ease traffic pressure for vehicles entering and leaving the capital.

Meanwhile, the Rs 1.3 billion Shaheen Chowk Underpass aims to resolve long-standing traffic jams at Ninth Avenue and Khayaban-i-Iqbal/Margalla Road. This location remains one of the busiest stretches of Islamabad because of nearby government offices and educational institutions.
Under the project plan, traffic on Khayaban-i-Iqbal will be routed underground, while the top of the underpass will connect Ninth Avenue with the adjacent service road.
