Torrential rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is predicted in upper and central parts of Pakistan between 23rd and 27th August, with occasional pauses between rain downpours. There is likelihood of heavy rains over Sindh and eastern/southern Balochistan between 27th to 29thAugust.

The strong westerly monsoon currents over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is likely to influence the northern parts starting, August 22, and a westerly wave might also take place in the night of August 22.

Region-wise Forecast:

Kashmir/Gilgit-Baltistan: Spell of rain and wind/thundershower is likely and heavy spell may fall at Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot and adjoining regions. Severe localized showers can be experienced in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: There are likely to be widespread rainstorms with wind/thundershower affecting districts and areas such as Dir, Chitral, Swat, Peshawar, Mardan and Dera Ismail Khan.

Punjab/Islamabad: Scattered heavy rainstorm experienced in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad and other cities. The urban low-lying places can be affected by local flooding.

Sindh/ Balochistan: Rain with wind/ thundershower is likely to take place in Mithi, Tharparkar, Barkhan, Loralai, Khuzdar.
