August 23, 2025 | Boulder, Colo. – The Colorado Buffaloes are set to begin the 2025 football season without the star power of Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders. Despite coming off a 9-4 season capped with a loss to BYU in the Alamo Bowl, expectations appear subdued for the Buffs this year.

While the headline names are gone, head coach Deion Sanders’ team remains competitive. Analysts predict at least another bowl appearance, thanks to quarterback Kaidon Salter and several high-profile additions from the transfer portal. However, the toughest challenge may come from one of the most difficult schedules in the Big 12 Conference.

The season kicks off at Folsom Field on August 29, with Colorado hosting Georgia Tech. The schedule ramps up with a Week 5 home matchup against BYU, followed by games against Iowa State and Utah. After a brief two-game stretch against West Virginia and Arizona, the season concludes with tough games against Arizona State and Kansas State. Securing five conference wins would already be considered a success, with more than that signaling an exceptional season.

With the season opener just days away, staff at Buffaloes Wire shared bold predictions for the upcoming season:

  • Charlie Strella predicts that four-star freshman quarterback Julian Lewis will not start a game in 2025. Strella says the team is built to win now, making Kaidon Salter the best choice at quarterback. Lewis will gain a developmental season to prepare for 2026.
  • Griffin Dreifaldt forecasts that Omarion Miller will stay healthy and lead not only Colorado but the entire Big 12 in receiving yards this season.
  • Xavier Michnewicz believes the Buffaloes’ rushing attack will become a major offensive focus under Coach Prime. With Salter at the helm, Colorado’s offense could look very different from previous seasons.
  • Jack Freeman predicts Colorado will make it to the Big 12 Championship Game. With a favorable early schedule and seven home games, the Buffs could peak at the right time to secure a spot in December’s championship.

Colorado fans will be watching closely as the Buffs aim to continue their success, adapt to a new offensive strategy, and potentially return to a bowl game this season.
