Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh took on his duties as the Acting Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC) in a ceremony today after taking a fresh oath. Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza gave the oath, in the Judges Lounge in the High Court.

An official announcement of his appointment came at the federal level since the Chief Justice Alia Neelum had travelled abroad to attend the International Judicial Conference. In her absence, the LHC and its judicial activities will be administered by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh who is to act as the face of the LHC.

The ceremony was not very elaborate but decorum and attendance were good. The sitting judges of Lahore High Court in large numbers, the president of LHC Bar Association, senior lawyers, federal as well as provincial law officers were present on the occasion. Judges and officials congratulated the Acting Chief Justice on his new job and wished him good luck in his new appointment.

The interim leadership of justice Abid Aziz Sheikh will have to oversee very important cases which will be called to court in the next few weeks. His judicial colleagues said that they were confident in his judicial skills and wish to advance fairness and integrity norms in the institution.

Through his oath today, Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh officially assumes the post of an Acting Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court to execute the duties till Chief Justice Alia Neelum completes her international engagement.
