Cheteshwar Pujara has retired from all forms of Indian cricket on Sunday, ending a spectacular international career of more than a decade. The 37 year old has posted on his social media and has said that he is taking off his boots and that it must come to an end.
Pujara has played 103 Test and five One Day International matches, the last of which was the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia. Having made his debut in Test Competition in 2010, the tenacious batsman has plundered 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60, and has deservedly won rave reviews as one of the most formidable specialists of modern times in the five-day game.
Reflecting on his journey, Pujara said, “Wearing the Indian jersey and giving my best on the field is beyond words. This game has given me invaluable experiences, purpose, and the honor of representing my state and country.” He attributed his long life span to discipline, athletic training, yoga, meditation and frequent domestic cricket.
