Pakistan Railways has temporarily suspended train services between Quetta and Peshawar for two days due to the worsening flood conditions across the country. As per officials, the Jaffar Express will remain halted on August 25 and 26 as a precautionary step to ensure passenger safety.
Despite the suspension, authorities confirmed that the Chaman Passenger Train successfully departed from Quetta according to its scheduled timing, avoiding disruption for short-route passengers.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways is actively working on a massive modernization and digitization plan to improve safety, reduce delays, and streamline passenger as well as freight transport nationwide. Official documents reveal that state-of-the-art communication and signaling systems are being installed on critical sections of the railway network.
The upgradation drive includes a computerized interlocking system at Landhi, Jummagoth, Badal Nala, and Sarhad stations, replacing outdated manual operations. This shift is expected to enhance accident prevention and improve efficient train routing.
In addition, the telecom system of the Karachi–Lahore main line is being revamped with a modern digital microwave radio communication setup, ensuring secure and uninterrupted data flow for operations. Pakistan Railways is also introducing a Push-to-Talk digital communication system in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sukkur, and Karachi divisions to boost real-time coordination between field teams and control centers.
