On Monday, a tense situation was created on Saiful Malook in Kaghan Valley when a major landslide stranded almost 200 tourists. The Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) intervened and the visitors were evacuated safely out of the serene lake to Naran. The situation was a major challenge to the tourists, a group of 25 four-wheel-drive jeeps tourist, since it cut off the main road linking Saiful Malook with the commercial hub of Kaghan Valley.
KDA spokesman Asas Shahzad said that the authorities sent heavy crushing machines to clear the landslide and help the movement of all stranded tourists. The rescue operation was thoroughly accomplished with no injuries, which demonstrates the effectiveness and readiness of local administration.
Besides the stranded visitors, five families residing in the Kandia Valley which is located in mountainous region were moved to safer places following threats of a possible GLOF.
