Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government will introduce Pakistan first pink EV scooters for women. The major reason behind this move is to provide safe and affordable transport options for working women and students.
According to Memon, the government received nearly 10,000 applications in the first phase. Among these, 150 women already had driving licenses, while the rest applied for learner permits.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has also partnered with the Sindh government in this project. Under the arrangement, KMC will provide motorcycle training and bear the cost of women’s driving licenses.
Memon added that if the number of applicants exceeds the available 1,000 scooters, a balloting system will be introduced to ensure fair distribution. The balloting process will be conducted transparently in the presence of media representatives.
Criteria for Distribution
- Pink EV scooters will be allotted through a transparent balloting process.
- A committee, including members from Excise, Transport, and Finance departments along with media personnel, will monitor the process.
