The Wafaqi Mohtasib has called the officials to clarify the ongoing congestion at D-Chowk, directing Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administrators and Environment Department authorities to clarify the traffic jam. The summons is set to hold on August 29, after repeated complaints by commuters on the severe delays in the federal capital.

During several weeks, the Environment Department has been checking vehicles to ensure that their standards meet environmental standards. In this exercise a camp was run at D-Chowk between morning and late afternoon. Nonetheless, having the inspection point in the Red Zone has caused major traffic congestion.

People living in the area as well as those that had to commute complained to the Ombudsman stating that they were affected in their daily routine and took longer in getting to work and schools. It has been questioned why such a high-risk location should be picked and why no awareness programme was conducted prior to the inspections. Moreover, such decisions as to open only one checkpoint in Islamabad have complicated traffic problems around the locations.
