Minneapolis, August 27, 2025 — At least two children have been killed and more than a dozen others injured after a gunman opened fire at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday morning, officials said.
Shooting Incident
The shooting occurred around 8:30 a.m. CDT at Annunciation Church, which also houses a grammar school. According to police, the gunman, armed with multiple firearms, fired through the church’s stained-glass windows, targeting students attending a scheduled all-school Mass.
Authorities confirmed that the shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Minneapolis Police Department said there is no ongoing threat to the community. Families of students were directed to a reunification zone at the school.
Casualties
Local media reported that 15 children were hospitalized, several in critical condition. In total, three people are confirmed dead — two children and the shooter — while 17 others were injured, including 14 children. Victims were taken to nearby hospitals, including Hennepin Healthcare and Children’s Minnesota.

Law Enforcement Response
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara described the event as an “unthinkable tragedy.” The FBI and ATF are assisting in the ongoing investigation. Officials have not released the shooter’s identity or motive but said he was reportedly in his early 20s with no known criminal record. Authorities are also examining a vehicle linked to the shooter.
Community and Political Reactions
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed sorrow, stating, “I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.”

President Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said he had been fully briefed on the incident and assured that the White House will continue to monitor the situation. “Please join me in praying for everyone involved,” he added.
