Netflix has announced that Monster: The Ed Gein Story will premiere on October 3, 2025, the latest installment in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s chilling true crime anthology series.
Charlie Hunnam Transforms into Ed Gein
Charlie Hunnam stars as Ed Gein, the infamous Wisconsin murderer and grave robber whose crimes inspired some of the most iconic horror films in American culture. Hunnam, widely recognized for his role as Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy, undergoes a dramatic transformation to portray Gein, often called the “Butcher of Plainfield.”
Netflix posters showcase Hunnam’s unsettling look as the series explores Gein’s life as a seemingly quiet recluse hiding horrifying secrets on his rural farm.
The Story Behind the Horror
The series examines Gein’s disturbing legacy, including the murders he confessed to in the 1950s and his gruesome acts involving exhumed corpses. His crimes influenced classic films such as Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs.
The cast also includes:
- Laurie Metcalf as Augusta Gein, Ed’s mother
- Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock
- Olivia Williams as Alma Reville
- Addison Rae as Evelyn Hartley
- Charlie Hall as Deputy Frank Worden
Additional cast members include Lesley Manville, Suzanna Son, and Robin Weigert.

Netflix fans can look forward to the premiere on October 3, 2025, bringing one of America’s darkest true crime stories to the streaming platform.
