Muniba Mazari, Iron Lady of Pakistan has climbed yet another historic milestone as the UN Secretary-General António Guterres has named her a Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocate.The official announcement came on March 24, 2025.
This recognition places Mazari already known as UN Women National Goodwill Ambassador, a celebrated artist and a strong human rights activist into the global league of advocates. She now joins international leaders such as Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley and Belgium Queen Mathilde who are also serving as SDG Advocates.
UN Chief António Guterres praised her resilience and vision, calling her “an inspiration and a leading voice for inclusion and gender equality.” He added that her strength reflects the true spirit of the SDGs and urged her to mobilize action worldwide.
Muniba Mazari, who became paralyzed from the waist down after a car accident at age 21, has emerged as one of Pakistan strongest voices for women empowerment, resilience and social justice. With this new role, she will influence global discussions on equality, education, climate and inclusion.

Reacting to her appointment, Mazari said this role is more than recognition; it is a responsibility. “ I will use my platform to amplify the voices of those who are unheard and push for a fairer, more compassionate and more sustainable world,” she remarked.
