Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have taken a major step to improve women safety by introducing a special “Pink Button” alert system across the province, ARY News reported. The system allows women and other citizens to quickly alert the police during harassment or emergencies.
Initially, 68 Pink Buttons will be installed in Peshawar. They will be placed at women’s markets, shopping centers, and near schools and colleges to make public spaces safer. When pressed, the button sends the user’s video and voice directly to the Police Control Room, enabling a rapid police response.
Police officials believe this technology will significantly protect women and provide a faster way to report harassment and other urgent situations.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) is also expanding its panic button program in Lahore. Following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, panic buttons have been installed in 39 women’s colleges and universities during the first phase. This will later extend to more than 450 institutions across the province.

The panic buttons connect directly to the PSCA central control room. Alerts are sent to the Virtual Women Police Station, allowing police teams to respond quickly. Students can use the system to seek help even when mobile phones are not available.
Currently, PSCA has panic buttons at 122 locations in Lahore and 101 in other cities. Officials say this expansion is part of a broader effort to make Punjab safer and ensure that students and women feel secure in public and educational spaces.
