The Punjab Governor has issued a notification for the establishment of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Murree along with three other districts. The decision aims to improve sanitation, drainage and urban services in the newly created tourist district.
In Murree, a Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) is also being set up. At the same time, the Murree-Kotli Sattian Development Authority will soon be launched to promote tourism in the two hill tehsils. Its notification is expected in September.
With these additions, Punjab now has 18 WASA offices, 13 of which were created under the current Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz. Earlier, WASA services were available only in five major cities which are Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan. Later, 10 more offices were added in cities like Jhelum, Sialkot, Okara and Bahawalpur, among others.
