Huawei has surged ahead to lead the global smartwatch market in the second quarter of 2025, overtaking Apple in overall shipments, according to Counterpoint Research. The company’s wearable shipments soared by 52% year-over-year, capturing a 21% share of worldwide sales for the quarter. This achievement marks Huawei’s first time claiming the top spot in global smartwatch units shipped.

The smartwatch-based market in the world that experienced a downturn in early 2024 recovered by 8 percent in year-over-year growth in the second quarter of 2025. China was the biggest contributor and the demand increased and the Chinese brands were reinforced. The gains made by Xiaomi and Imoo are also high whereby the shipments have increased by 38 and 21 percent respectively, a sign of the rising strength of local producers

In the meantime, shipments of smart watches in the world had decreased by 3 percent by Apple and Samsung. Nevertheless, Apple has been able to retain its market leadership in the high-end market, serving high end, feature-rich devices to consumers.

Counterpoint Research projects further advance the market development and project 7% increase in total sales of smart watches through 2025. Momentum is expected to continue with strong demand in Asia and in emerging markets, with Huawei in the process of continuing to lead the global growth.
