More than 25 countries, including Pakistan, have suspended mail delivery to the United States after Washington introduced new taxes and duties on all incoming parcels.
According to officials, Pakistan Post has halted sending booked mail to America, fearing that parcels may be returned under the new rules. The suspension comes after the US government withdrew the earlier duty-free facility through Executive Order No. 14324 issued on July 25.
This policy change has badly affected international postal services. Now, every type of mail delivery to the US will be charged with taxes and duties causing major disruptions worldwide.
Countries such as China, the UK, Japan, Australia, Austria, New Zealand, India, Germany, France, Russia and Singapore have also stopped mail services to America. Airlines have expressed their inability to carry the mail under the new requirements, further worsening the crisis.

Several affected countries have raised the matter with the United States through the Universal Postal Union, a UN body responsible for global postal coordination. Efforts are underway to find a solution but until then millions of people will remain unable to send or receive packages across borders.
