A helicopter crash in Chilas, Gilgit-Baltistan, left at least three people dead on Monday morning after the aircraft suffered a sudden technical malfunction and attempted an emergency landing.
Accident in Chilas’ Hadwarnar Sarah
According to initial reports, the tragedy took place around 10:20am in the Hadwarnar Sarah area of Chilas. The helicopter, which was carrying two pilots and three technical crew members, encountered a mechanical failure shortly after takeoff. While trying to return for landing, the aircraft went down and immediately caught fire.
Rescue and Firefighting Operations
Emergency response teams, including local administration, Pakistan Army units, and district authorities, rushed to the crash site within minutes. A government official stated that firefighting and rescue operations are still ongoing to fully control the blaze and secure the area.
Several senior officers, such as the FCN commander, Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts DG, and Diamer commissioner, also arrived at the location to directly oversee the rescue activities.
Meanwhile, the Gilgit-Baltistan government imposed an emergency at Chilas Hospital under directives from the GB chief minister. All medical staff and doctors have been ordered to remain on duty to deal with any emergency cases from the helicopter crash in Chilas.

Government’s Response
Expressing grief over the loss of precious lives, the Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister directed all concerned departments to extend immediate support at the crash site. Provincial spokesperson Faizullah Faraq confirmed that an official inquiry will be launched to identify the root cause of the technical breakdown that led to the crash.
