China announced on Tuesday that Russian citizens will be able to visit the country without a visa for up to 30 days under a one-year trial scheme set to begin later this month.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the policy will be effective from September 15, 2025, to September 14, 2026, allowing Russian passport holders visa-free entry for purposes including business, tourism, family visits, and educational exchanges, state media outlet TASS reported.

The announcement coincided with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Beijing, where he and Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted their strengthening ties as a counterweight to Western influence.
Since reopening its borders in 2023 after Covid-19 restrictions, China has extended visa-free access to citizens of 75 countries.
