Punjab bans forest timber auction across the province as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a landmark decision to protect country against climate change. For the first time in Punjab history, the traditional system of auctioning forest wood has been abolished.

The Chief Minister ordered an immediate ban on the cutting of trees and the auction of timber, stressing that forests must be preserved for future generations. Officials confirmed that a formal notification has been issued, ensuring that every type of timber auction will remain suspended until further orders.

New rules and procedures will now be created using modern technology and mapping to make the system transparent and free of corruption, said Punjab government. Environmental experts and forestry professionals welcomed the move and called it a bold step towards protecting natural resources and preventing land erosion.
