The LDA Town Planning Wing has initiated an offensive against illegal commercial setups and buildings where business fees are not paid. It conducted operations in a number of LDA controlled localities such as Gulberg, Gulshan Ravi, Wahdat Road and Sabzazar and sealed 16 properties. Governments were attacking areas that were misusing residential plots as commercial zones and not paying their trade duties.

In Gulberg, 19 properties were ordered sealed and 10 properties in Gulshan Ravi were also ordered sealed because of illicit commercial activity and arrears. In Wahdat Road and Sabzazar, the recovery efforts resulted in 32 other properties being closed. The targets are the private banks, schools and colleges, furniture outlets, clinics, salons, workshops, food points, retail outlets and offices.

The exercise, which was under the watch of Chief Town Planner Asad-ul-Zaman, has highlighted how the LDA is keen to see that the rules governing commercial activities and adequate collection of fees are adhered to. The authority tries to safeguard the business ethics, the standards of urban planning, and the commercial integrity of the city by taking stern measures against the violators.

Unpaid commercial fees are being closely monitored to ensure that non-compliance will not be accepted in the future. Companies are encouraged to comply with LDA rules, and to clear outstanding payments as soon as possible, to prevent both legal and financial liability.
