Karachi’s chronic traffic congestion caused by heavy transport vehicles may finally see relief with the extension of the M-10 Motorway. The project will transform the existing 57-kilometre Northern Bypass into a new 134-kilometre, six-lane motorway, directly linking Karachi to the M-6 Motorway at Jamshoro through the scenic Kirthar Mountain Range.
According to officials, the M-10 Motorway is no longer just a bypass upgrade but a mega infrastructure project. It includes the construction of a brand-new six-lane road as well as the expansion of a 23-kilometre section, ensuring smooth, high-speed travel from Karachi Port to M-6.
The project was recently reviewed during a meeting between Federal Communication Minister Aleem Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at CM House. It was revealed that the scheme is currently in the feasibility study phase, being carried out by National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak). Both federal and provincial governments stressed the importance of timely execution and transparency.
Aleem Khan highlighted that the main goal of the M-10 Motorway is to decongest Karachi by providing a direct, efficient connection between the port and the national motorway grid. The chief minister welcomed federal support, noting that these projects are essential not just for Sindh but for Pakistan’s overall economic stability.
Earlier, the communication minister had confirmed that construction of both the M-6 and M-10 would commence simultaneously. This development follows warnings by the Senate Standing Committee on Planning, urging the National Highway Authority (NHA) to expedite progress on the long-delayed M-6 project.

The Sindh government emphasized that the Rs363 billion M-6 motorway project, funded under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), would be executed in five phases.
With backing from the Islamic Development Bank and interest from Chinese companies, the motorway will complete Pakistan’s north-south corridor from Peshawar to Karachi, improving logistics, safety, and port-to-upcountry trade links.
