Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa chaired an important meeting at the CDA Headquarters to finalize construction of 100 water rechargeable wells for water conservation and groundwater recharge in the federal capital. The meeting was attended by Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafeez, DG Water Islamabad, and other senior officials.
The CDA has decided to construct 100 large rechargeable wells at various green belts and open spaces across Islamabad in the first phase. It was also made mandatory for all houses, including farmhouses, to install rechargeable wells. Housing societies have been directed to ensure the construction of these wells in every home and submit compliance reports to the CDA.
To preserve clean water flowing through natural streams, the authority will build 20 large water tanks and reservoirs, with 10 tanks to be constructed in the initial stage. In addition, all mosques in Islamabad will be required to install systems to save ablution water, which will then be used for gardening and construction purposes. Housing societies have been instructed to ensure proper water recycling systems in mosques under their jurisdiction.

For water pollution control, the CDA also approved the construction of 11 wetlands at different sites in the city. Through scientific methods, these wetlands will help purify contaminated water before it is released into natural water resources. Housing societies will also be required to establish wetlands, and their monitoring will be carried out by the CDA.
Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa emphasized that third-party validation will be conducted for all water conservation and management projects to ensure transparency and effective implementation.
