The Punjab Examination Commission for Teaching and Assessment (PECTA) has announced that standardized examinations for students of grades five and eight will officially commence from the academic session 2026-27.
According to education authorities, the initiative aims to ensure uniform assessment across schools, improve teaching standards, and provide reliable data on student learning outcomes. The decision aligns with broader education reforms introduced by the Punjab government to raise the quality of schooling and accountability in both public and private institutions.

Officials said the exams will serve as a diagnostic tool to identify learning gaps early, enabling teachers and policymakers to design better interventions for student performance improvement.
The move is also expected to bring consistency in the evaluation system, replacing varied school-level assessments with a centralized structure managed under PECTA.
Further details regarding the exam structure, syllabi, and guidelines for teachers will be released by the Punjab School Education Department ahead of the 2026-27 academic year.
