Famous Pakistani singer Quratulain Balouch was attacked by a wild bear on a camping trip in the beautiful Deosai National Park Gilgit-Baltistan. Park officials also said she was immediately transported to the Regional Hospital in Skardu, where doctors confirmed she is under treatment and she is no longer at risk.

According to medical personnel, both of the arms of the renowned singer were injured in the sudden assault, but now she is in stable condition. The event has raised new debate over the issue of wildlife safety in tourist destinations because Deosai is still attracting adventurers within and beyond Pakistan.

Deosai national park, located on over 3,000 square kilometers, is commonly referred to as the Land of Giants, and is characterized by vast plains, clear streams and vivid alpine flowers. It is also the home of the threatened Himalayan brown bear and is located in the western Himalayas around Nanga Parbat. In 2023, a conservation report estimated the bear population was only 75 and this has raised concerns over habitat encroachment and low genetic diversity.

The stakeholders in tourism highlighted that more stringent safety precautions need to be implemented to ensure the safety of both visitors and animals in the area. Official regulations are encouraging adventure travelers to be careful and to visit isolated places such as Deosai.

In spite of the terrifying experience, Quratulain Balouch will still come back to life, and people all over the country are praying that she heals quickly, as the bear attacked her in Deosai National Park.
