A group of young engineers in Karachi has introduced an AI-based app called Animal Passport to help farmers track and recover their livestock during floods. The application is available free of cost across Pakistan and aims to reduce the financial burden farmers face when animals are lost in natural disasters.
Every year, heavy rains and floods force families to leave their homes and in the process, thousands of animals get lost or washed away. With no reliable way to trace them, many farmers end up suffering major losses.
To solve this issue, the engineers have built the Animal Passport app which uses AI to identify animals through their unique nose prints. Each nose pattern works like a fingerprint, giving the animal a secure digital identity. Farmers can register their cattle by adding details such as name, age, gender, color and their own contact information.

If animals go missing during floods, the app can quickly match them with their registered owners.

Abdul Basit Qureshi, founder of Global Animal Passport said “This is our contribution to the farming community. We want farmers to protect their livestock before floodwaters strike.”
So far, more than 10,000 animals have been registered through the app, which has shown 99.9% accuracy in testing. For the best results, users are advised to dry the animal nose before scanning to capture a clear image.
