Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Aamir Khattak, has announced a complete ban on plastic bags starting from June 5. Chairing a meeting of the Hotel and Restaurant Association, Engineer Aamir Khattak emphasized the importance of providing relief to citizens through price control measures and anti-encroachment operations.
The administration’s priority is to foster economic activities by creating a conducive environment for the business community. The Commissioner assured that no businessman would face undue harassment, urging traders to adhere to official rates for essential commodities. Assistant Commissioners have been tasked with visiting all markets to educate people about the ban on plastic bags, with a strong emphasis on raising awareness.
The business community expressed appreciation for the Commissioner’s initiatives and pledged continued cooperation with the administration. They also urged the Commissioner to expedite anti-encroachment operations, especially in commercial areas. The Commissioner assured that price magistrates are actively monitoring the availability of essential commodities at fixed rates.
In order to pass on the benefits of reduced wheat prices to the public, the Commissioner announced that the price of ‘Roti’ has been set at Rs 15 across the division. He also mentioned that 168 price magistrates are currently enforcing this price regulation, with recent raids resulting in fines totaling Rs 57,000 imposed on violators.
