Islamabad, July 12, 2025: The newest Netflix romcom Aap Jaisa Koi, made by Karan Johar-founded Dharmatic Entertainment and directed by Vivek Soni, surrounds Hollywood-level gloss and made-up storytelling to cling to a well-known plot. Frankly speaking, the movie has a fatigued plot, but still succeeds in impressing the audience due to its detailed production design and crisp camerawork by Debojeet Ray a classic case of “All Style, Little Substance.”
The Breathless starred R. Madhavan in the role of Shrirenu, a neglected Sanskrit teacher based in the Jamshedpur town, and Fatima Sana Shaikh as Madhu, an urban Bengali girl. It is a replica of the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani by Johar. The story is based on patriarchal, male egos, and stereotypes, and the confrontation between the old-fashioned tradition and progressive tendencies is predictive but sometimes collision but very enjoyable.

Those that do not fall in line with the film criticize the Bengali characterization as bordering on the lazy stereotyping as the visual flair evident in the film makes it watchable courtesy Director Soni. One of the highlights, an application that allows chatting with sexual partners, which the movie is also titled after, introduced freshness and visionary prowess, although the events that unfold in this subplot play by the book.
The connection between Madhavan and Shaikh is shallow and their characters are doomed to fail at the beginning. Nevertheless, Aap Jaisa Koi focuses on areas that it excels in, which unfortunately surpasses a rather average script development.

The movie, in the writing of Radhika Anand and Jehan Handa does not break any genre, but its convention to style and beauty look makes it an interesting watch to the lover of the modernism of Bollywood romance movies.
