Achyut Potdar, the veteran actor and a household name in the Marathi and Hindi film circles, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the age of 91. He died at the Jupiter Hospital in Thane following health complications after being admitted to the hospital.

It is not clear what exactly caused his death. On August 19, his last rites were conducted in Thane. The announcement was preceded by a dedication message posted in one of the instagram channels. Potdar has had a career spanning several decades with appearing in over 125 films and has starred in both box office success and critically well-received films like, Aakrosh, Ardh Satya, Tezaab, Parinda, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Dilwale, Rangeela, Vaastav, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dabangg 2 and Ventilator.

One of his most memorable roles was him in the movie 3 Idiots portraying a tough professor. Besides films, he made a considerable impact on television, where he appeared in Bharat Ek Khoj, All The Best, Pradhan Mantri, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Aahat, Wagle Ki Duniya and Majha Hoshil Na.

Potdar was a professor in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh before his action and retired as a captain in Indian Army in 1967. After that, he worked with Indian Oil until the year 1992 when decided to take up acting as a profession.
