Islamabad, JULY29: To assist in the restoration of homes and community facilities in Pakistan’s Sindh province, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD 400 million concessional loan.
According to the specifics, the objectives of the Sindh Emergency Housing Reconstruction Project are to repair homes damaged by flooding, assist with the recovery of livelihoods, and improve community resilience to climate change.
This program is a part of ADB’s larger, USD 1.5 billion flood recovery assistance to Pakistan, which will be provided between 2023 and 2025. Of the housing destruction, Sindh province (which suffered 83% of it) will rebuild 250,000 houses utilizing resilient designs. In addition, the initiative will upgrade 100,000 households’ access to clean drinking water, sanitary conditions, covered drainage, and renewable energy sources across 1,000 settlements.
ADB places a strong emphasis on catastrophe risk reduction and community-led climate resilience. The government will be able to do better at procurement, safeguard compliance, and administration thanks to a grant of $500,000.
