Islamabad, Sep 9: Greater Delhi: The toss in Monday’s one-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was postponed due to rain during the night and a damp outfield. The match was held close to the Indian capital.
Three hours after the planned start time, at 1:00 pm (0730 GMT), umpires scheduled a follow-up inspection. In the meantime, players had lunch. The ground, which is staging its maiden Test after receiving a lot of rain during the past week, was being cleaned up by ground crew.
The home team, Afghanistan, is technically headed by Hashmatullah Shahidi, but they are missing a number of key players, including leg-spinner Rashid Khan, who is recovering from a back injury. It is only the tenth Test match for Afghanistan. Tim Southee’s team, New Zealand, will next go to Sri Lanka for two Test matches before coming back to play three more against India.
