Islamabad, Mar 13, 2025: In a tragic incident in Agra, two men have been arrested for allegedly killing a 24-year-old BTech student over a dispute involving a matchbox on Sunday night.
The victim, Siddhant Govindam, was watching the India-New Zealand Champions Trophy final with his friends at the JCB ground in Shastripuram when the incident occurred.
According to the police, Siddhant, along with his three friends, was sitting on scooters while watching the match on their mobile phones.
The three men—Kanhaiya Diwakar, 24, Dilip Singh, 26, and their associate Abhishek Kumar—arrived at the ground on a motorcycle.
They were reportedly consuming alcohol when Abhishek approached the group, asking for a matchbox to light a cigarette.
The request led to a heated argument, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation. During the scuffle, Abhishek, armed with a knife, along with his accomplices, attacked Siddhant.
He sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest and abdomen. Siddhant collapsed at the scene and was later declared dead at the hospital.
The police registered a case of murder under section 103 of the BNS Act after receiving a complaint from Siddhant’s father, Anil Kumar Govindam.
He was informed about his son’s death by the brother-in-law of one of Siddhant’s friends. The accused were arrested the following day, and an investigation into the motive is underway.
Siddhant, a final-year electronics engineering student at Dayalbagh Educational Institute, had been looking forward to his graduation.
His tragic death has shocked the local community, which is still grappling with the senseless violence.
