After the national cricket team’s dismal performance in the T20 World Cup, which is now being co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies, Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad sparked controversy with his recent remarks criticizing Babar Azam and the team.
Shehzad said that the members of the Pakistan national team should apologize to the people for a horrible performance during the 2024 T20 World Cup rather than backing Haris Rauf on social media for the unpleasant event with the supporter.
“Although we completely denounce the actions taken against Haris Rauf, we also think that the players’ supportive posts have to be removed from the public eye in light of Haris’s dismal World Cup showing. It ought to have been an expression of regret, Shehzad wrote.Shehzad, fuming, begged the players to come back to Pakistan instead of taking their vacations overseas.
“It would be beneficial if these athletes returned to Pakistan for their vacations rather than traveling overseas and offered an apology to the country if they were embarrassed. The supporters should be given an explanation for the players’ subpar performances, and these posts by the players shouldn’t alter the story, he said.
Nowadays, accountability is crucial. The same players haven’t won a trophy for Pakistan in the previous five years and have continued to put their individual accomplishments ahead of the achievement of the nation as a whole, Shehzad continued.
Fans and commentators are divided over the comments; some are standing up for the athletes, while others agree with Shehzad’s demand for responsibility. Shehzad’s remarks have not received a response from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
