Islamabad, June 24, 2025: Perplexity AI, a rising name in artificial intelligence, is testing its innovative AI-powered browser “Comet” for Windows after a successful beta launch on macOS for Apple Silicon devices. Designed to simplify browsing, Comet uses agentic search technology to help users perform tasks like email summarization, shopping discounts, and even virtual try-ons from user-uploaded images.
The Comet browser’s integration of AI into everyday internet use sets it apart from traditional browsers. Its early Windows version is currently under testing, and select users have already received invites. In a recent update, CEO Aravind Srinivas also revealed that an Android version is in the pipeline, aiming to bring Comet’s smart features to a wider audience.
Privacy Concerns Sparked by Data Collection Statement
Despite its technological appeal, Comet has faced some scrutiny. During a podcast, Srinivas suggested that the browser could collect behavioral data beyond the app to enhance personalization. This statement triggered privacy concerns online. In response, he clarified that such data collection would be strictly optional, and users would maintain full control over their privacy settings.
Apple Reportedly in Talks to Acquire Perplexity AI
In a major industry development, Apple is reportedly exploring an acquisition of Perplexity AI, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Talks are said to be in the early stages, led by Apple’s mergers and acquisitions team in collaboration with its AI division. If finalized, this move could represent Apple’s boldest step yet into the AI search market, where it would face off against Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI.
While Apple remains tight-lipped, a Perplexity spokesperson denied any formal acquisition discussions. However, sources indicate that Perplexity AI, currently valued at $14 billion, is also in separate talks with Samsung, potentially attracting a bidding war.
Comet Browser’s Future in the AI Search Space
If Apple successfully acquires the company, it could integrate Comet’s agentic search capabilities into future devices, directly challenging emerging AI browsers like Opera Neon. The next few months will be crucial for both companies as interest in AI-driven browsing and search continues to skyrocket.
