Islamabad/New Delhi, July 24, 2025: In a game of tit-for-tat, traditional arch-rivals India and Pakistan prolonged the ban on each other’s airspace till August.
Pakistan set the deadline of ban on aircrafts from India using its airspace for August 23. The restriction covers all planes operated by Indian airlines or registered in India, including both civilian and military flights.

The ban was first introduced in late April following a spike in tensions between the two nuclear-armed states. Although diplomatic channels have since sought to end hostilities, the airspace ban remained in place.
Airlines flying from India on westbound routes are forced to take detours around Pakistan, leading to longer journey times and increased fuel costs.
The closure imposed by India on Pakistani airspace was also extended to August 24.
Both governments have maintained that the aviation restrictions are part of their broader security responses.

The ongoing airspace closure continues to disrupt scheduled flights and adds operational issues for airlines and passengers alike. It also highlights the fragile state of India-Pakistan relations, where geopolitical tensions spill over into over areas, including the civil aviation.
