Islamabad, July 15, 2025: In a startling incident that raised serious questions about airport safety protocols, an Akasa Air aircraft collided with a cargo truck on the taxiway at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai. The collision occurred during a routine ground movement on Saturday night, disrupting operations and alarming both passengers and crew.
According to initial reports, the Akasa Air plane was being towed towards the runway when a cargo vehicle unexpectedly crossed its path. The truck struck the aircraft’s engine area, causing minor damage. Thankfully, there were no passengers on board at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Airport officials swiftly responded, towing the aircraft back to the bay and launching an immediate inquiry into the matter. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also ordered a full investigation to determine if lapses in ground control communication or negligence caused the mishap.
A spokesperson from Akasa Air confirmed the incident and assured that safety remains their top priority. “Our teams are cooperating fully with the authorities to investigate the incident. The affected aircraft is grounded for a detailed inspection,” the statement read.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic. “The cargo truck suddenly appeared near the taxiway and hit the aircraft before anyone could react,” said a ground staff member on condition of anonymity. The incident has once again brought focus to the challenges of managing increasing air traffic and congestion at India’s busiest airports.
With air travel rising post-pandemic, aviation experts warn that airport infrastructure and safety systems must keep pace to prevent such near-miss events. Social media users have expressed concern, demanding accountability and stricter protocols for ground operations.
