Ambassador Khazar Farhadov emphasized the flourishing relationship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan across various sectors. He highlighted the significant impact of direct flights between the two countries, operated by PIA since 2022 and by AZAL since 2023, which have facilitated the movement of over 50,000 Pakistani tourists to Azerbaijan in 2023. Furthermore, he noted Pakistan’s inclusion in Azerbaijan’s online ASAN visa system, simplifying the visa process and fostering closer ties between the citizens of both nations.
Speaking on the occasion of Azerbaijan’s 106th Independence Day anniversary, Ambassador Farhadov underscored the historic significance of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, established in 1918 as the first democratic republic in the Muslim East. He highlighted Azerbaijan’s rapid state-building efforts during its short existence, laying the foundation for future independence and democratic traditions.
Ambassador Farhadov praised the leadership of Azerbaijan, particularly the role of Heydar Aliyev and current President Ilham Aliyev, in preserving sovereignty and implementing policies for national development. He also highlighted Azerbaijan’s recent achievements, including the liberation of internationally recognized territories from Armenian occupation in 2020 and hosting significant international events such as the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue and COP29.
Expressing gratitude for Pakistan’s early recognition of Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991, Ambassador Farhadov highlighted the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992 as a testament to their enduring friendship and cooperation.
