ISLAMABAD – June 28, 2025: The Ambassador Zahoor of Pakistan called on the President of the Senate Foreign Affairs Commission of Spain, Senator José Ignacio Landaluce, at the Spanish Senate. The meeting was also attended by six other senators from various political parties, along with the Director of International Affairs of the Senate. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation, particularly in the parliamentary sphere, and to present Pakistan’s perspective on regional and international developments.

The Ambassador expressed appreciation for Spain’s balanced and constructive approach to international conflicts and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to diplomacy as the preferred path for resolving regional issues. He emphasized that, as a country that has suffered greatly from terrorism hence Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and advocates for de-escalation and peaceful conflict resolution.
On the bilateral front, the Ambassador lauded Spain’s principled stance on human rights, development, and international cooperation. He noted that Spain enjoys deep respect in Pakistan for its balanced foreign policy. The Ambassador also expressed gratitude for Spain’s and other friendly nations’ efforts in helping to de-escalate tensions in South Asia.
Highlighting areas for potential cooperation, the Ambassador pointed to opportunities in renewable energy, agricultural technology, artificial intelligence, education, and cultural exchange.
Senator Landaluce extended a warm welcome to the Ambassador and his delegation. He commended the Ambassador’s efforts in promoting closer ties between Spain and Pakistan and reaffirmed his support for further strengthening bilateral relations. Senator Landaluce agreed that diplomacy and dialogue are essential tools for resolving global challenges and reiterated Spain’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution.
Spokespersons from the major parties represented in the Spanish Senate were also in attendance. Senator Ana Beltrán (Partido Popular) welcomed enhanced collaboration in the fields of artificial intelligence and renewable energy, expressing support for peaceful solutions to disputes. Senator Rafael Lemus (PSOE) emphasized Spain’s identity as a pacifist country committed to peace and security. Senator Luke Uribe-Etxebarria (EH Bildu) shared similar views, highlighting the importance of dialogue and mutual respect in international relations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Senators Vicente Azpitarte (PP) and Antonio Gutiérrez (PSOE), who had visited Pakistan in 2024, thanked the Ambassador and spoke fondly of the warm hospitality they received during their visit.
The Ambassador extended an invitation to Senator José Ignacio Landaluce and the other senators to visit Pakistan at their convenience, expressing hope that such a visit would further enhance parliamentary and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
