On Wednesday, federal Minister of Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met with the US Charge d Affairs, Natalie A. Baker to discuss the extent to which the two countries could collaborate in Pakistan energy sector especially oil, gas, and minerals. Baker underlined that American companies are very interested in oil, gas, and mining sector in Pakistan, and this indicates an emerging momentum to invest in Pakistani energy sector.
According to her, she said, the United States would be willing to help the country in boosting the relationship between the United States and Pakistan particularly in the field of Exploration & Production (E&P). Malik embraced this interest and noted some of the future opportunities to be bided on such as the oil and gas exploration blocks in the offshore and onshore.
Pakistan has very vast untapped reserves of shale oil and gas and we would like to turn these into productive assets. We are already sharing quality information with the US firms” Malik said. Both officials were complimentary of a recent Direct Line webinar that was able to connect US companies with the Pakistani mineral sector, and which could be used as a prototype of oil and gas interaction.

Baker emphasized that it is necessary to change the US-Pakistan relations between dialogue countering terrorism and economic partnership. It was agreed in the meeting to further intensify cooperation on energy to realize the benefits of US technology and investment in mutual development. Pakistan has vast quantities of oil, gas, and minerals that interest the American firms in Pakistan greatly to ensure further cooperation in the upcoming years.
